I create and publish to YouTube a fair number of Mailchimp instructional videos. I have always been aware of the importance of subtitles for videos both for accessibility reasons in addition to SEO reasons (yes, accessibility is important for SEO).
Once you’ve uploaded a video to YouTube then YouTube generates subtitles for you. If however you want to generate your own subtitles you can use a tool such as AWS Transcribe.
In these instructions I describe how to use Amazon AWS Transcribe to generate subtitles that are compatible with YouTube. Specifically I go through using AWS Transcribe to create a video transcription with timings. I then show how to convert the JSON output that AWS provides into an SRT file that YouTube will accept as a subtitles file.
